COLOR OF THE YEAR 2022 MUDROOM REVEAL
home projects have been on my mind long before we moved in last October and when we designed our house we chose white walls, trim, ceilings to act as a blank canvas. I’ve always had plans to incorporate color and prints and I was definitely influenced by @astoldbymichelle to try this stunning color of the year from Sherwin Williams ‘Evergreen Fog’ for our mudroom.
the mudroom was a smaller space that I felt comfortable playing with paint and knew that just a few changes would elevate this space and it could go from ‘the messiest room that I dreaded’ to a room that I seriously adore!
on the left is a before photo (a wreck with no rhyme or reason), the middle is an image I took trying to narrow down which style of baskets I wanted to store the shoes in and the photo on the right is after 1 coat of paint – we ended up using 3 coats of Evergreen Fog in the satin finish
my husband and I put this all together within a few days. I had multiple Target pick ups to get the right baskets and had many moments where I would style and restyle the top section. the hooks I spray painted a matte black and we were sure to paint underneath the bench area too. I really wanted the whole space to get a complete makeover
below are some style tips for elevating your own spaces at home
choose a color palette
neutrals with a few subtle colors keep this space calm and pretty
add in greenery
a faux plant brings life and volume to this dark corner (pot linked) white ceramic bowl (Target dollar spot)
functional storage
hiding and organizing the shoes in baskets (white linked, brown woven linked) looks good and it makes for faster mornings headed out the door (no more lost shoes!)
bring in textures
glass, wood, canvas, rope, ceramic, woven grass .. all these textures come together to look collected and curated not too ‘matchy’
layer art
this watercolor image ties in all the colors used in this space, the two floral art pieces compliment each other and give visual interest (larger art + pink vase found at Nest Boutique locally last year)
fun story about the smaller image – my mom had shared that she bought a download for a floral picture and within a second of seeing it I knew that it would be perfect in this space. I could not have dreamt up a more gorgeous art piece for this space! the colors and vibe were exactly what I had in mind
