WHAT TO BUY NOW FOR TRANSITIONAL HOME DECOR

do you have a word to describe your decor style?? ‘transitional’ is a newer interior design style meaning ‘a mixture of traditional and modern styles’ ‘balances luxury with comfort, masculine and feminine and antiques with new pieces’ (see my transitional kitchen/dining room here) .. I often felt it was hard to describe my home style. I like what I like and sometimes it’s more boho, sometimes I gravitate towards farmhouse or even modern. I feel like if I could sum up my style in a store it’d be Anthropologie – I instantly obsess over rich colors, texture, metallics, a bit of vintage thrown in. I do love neutrals and wood tones and by playing with other textures like glass, woven, metal, linen, velvet the look all comes together to finish the look – here’s what to buy now for transitional home decor.

woods, neutral palette, pottery, linens and natural elements like plants and artwork bring interest into a simple design/ neutral room

mirrors, rugs and lamps bring depth to an otherwise simple space

neutrals might primarily be the focus in transitional home designs but pops of greens, blues and other colors commonly found in nature are typically shown for a bold look – this couch feels traditional but the fabric and color makes it feel more modern

texture is a major detail in transitional home decor and the lamp base and details on the cabinet make these ordinary pieces just a little more special and unique – especially since they’re light in color – adding the texture makes the lamp and cabinet stand out and become a standout moment

I love accent chairs that have wood / fabric details – I’ll link a few below – my home has quartz countertops so mixing in gold in our lighting and wood in our table keep the room balanced and while it’s neutral – nothing is boring.

decorating with simple but impactful pieces are key in transitional home design. while pairing neutrals with subtle pops of color is important I also think adding in textures and depth matters too. try including art or plants in your decorating

while decor/ art isn’t on every wall or surface in transitional design, I do see cabinets or shelving where accents are placed strategically to add impact and interest to a room
