who else is beyond excited for the magic of the holidays this year?? I’m telling you, I’m SO ready! Christmas brings such magic and joy and I’m very ready to relax and enjoy time with my loved ones.
in October I was invited to attend a virtual event with MacKenzie-Childs and during the three days we got to meet a few of the amazing men and women behind the brand. their love of MacKenzie-Childs exuded and each of the classes (painting, flower arranging and cooking) we were able to connect with each other and all those in Utah that attended.
MacKenzie-Childs is a brand of traditions, joy and love. I could FEEL such strong emotions of making memories with my daughters and how their beautiful and unique pieces become part of a story. a lot of the women attending shared how growing up their moms showcased MacKenzie-Childs in their home and how they’ll always remember using their special cookie plate, or noticing their moms decor or vases.
I knew instantly that I wanted to be part of such a brand that exudes emotions of happiness. MacKenzie-Childs truly brings that joy. with an amazing amount of products to choose from, each stunning piece is carefully designed and made and each have stories to tell – each piece is slightly unique and I know the hands that make them take pride in their work.
here are the details of my traditional Christmas tablescape with MacKenzie-Childs.
I decorate typically in brighter colors, my previous Christmas color palettes have included black + silver, turquoise + silver, pink + turquoise + green, soft pinks + metallics and this year I’m focusing my tree to be a combination of colors with a lot of neutral cream. I handmade the pom pom garland and a lot of the ornaments – I’m excited to reveal it!
so while my love of color hasn’t changed – our daughters’ stockings are red, green and cream and I love a traditional Christmas color scheme too. I’ll be incorporating those classic Christmas vibes into the kitchen.
being simple is something I really try to do – but I can’t help it. I love details and layering, and creating depth and interest with everything I do. my husband teases because I always go overboard on decorations for our girls’ birthday parties – but I honestly just can’t stop myself. it’s too much fun to decorate!
I felt the same way with decorating this tablescape.
I love how it all came together – and the little details are what make up the design. without all of the ‘extra’ there wouldn’t be anything to look at. things like placemats, wreaths, the charger plates, the wood garland – it all becomes a unified look.
this tablescape is a little bit glam, a little bit traditional and a little bit playful – all things that I think Christmas encompasses. I started the design actually with the Courtly Check Enamel Petal Salad/ Dessert plates from MacKenzie-Childs. they’re beautiful statement pieces that bring in such vibrancy and this iconic, signature pattern so much fun.
if you saw my fall tablescape post here, you’ll notice the tables look quite different from each other. using the Courtly Check in a subtle way is just as gorgeous as going bold with it in a space or on a table.
I had the red plates already, and borrowed the plaid placemats (similar) and gold chargers (similar) from my mom. I wanted a subtle pattern in a napkin and fell in love with these cute striped ones. A clear glass (love these) with a bit of interest keeps the focus on the plates and allows the other details to shine. The napkin rings I actually handmade using extra wood beads from the garlands (similar) I made earlier this year.
the Golden Hour Beaded trees look so regal and bring another statement element to the tablescape. they’re gorgeous and since I decorated the center of the table with metallics, the red and plaid place settings pop against a neutral backdrop.
I also think at a dinner table it is crucial to have a salt + pepper shaker set around, especially when hosting other guests. I’m obsessing over this cute duo, the Highbanks Large Salt & Pepper Shakers from MacKenzie-Childs
the centerpiece above is a wreath with a candle display in the center. I added in a few extra leaf/berry picks to the wreath for additional color/depth and strung the wooden bead garland around (DIY beads found here). decorating the sides of the wreath with the trees, cute vases, and a nutcracker complete the look
creating this tablescape has me stoked for Christmas and I can’t wait to recreate this for a very special dinner with my family. if there is anything I’ve learned from 2020 – it’s that life can change in a second and to live in the moment. don’t take my blessings for granted – enjoy what stage I’m in and love my people.
