tips for breaking out of your comfort zone
practice makes perfect, right?? well in my years of blogging and having my picture taken, I’m still not perfect. and I still get nervous. I wish I could say that 100% of the time I’m camera ready and confident when it comes to getting my picture taken. something I’m working on is being comfortable enough to have people around watching as I stand in front of the camera.Β
being in LA with my friend Karlee was a MAJOR push out of my comfort zone, because …
A. I have never really traveled without my husband. lol it sounds silly, but I felt like I had to ‘grow up’ on this trip and actually be an adult – which I’m going to have to do again because I’m going to NEW YORK FASHION WEEK! cue the music, the tears, the everything! (more to come on this later π but I’ll be honest. this upcoming trip is definitely a push out of my comfort zone.
B. she was my photographer (normally only my husband, mom or sister takes my photos)
C. we were out in public! standing literally on the corner, strutting our stuff! I never do that. at home when I’m out taking outfit shots for the blog or my instagram, I would always choose a secluded area where nobody can see me.Β as silly as this sounds, taking pictures in public was liberating. freeing. I LOVED being able to ‘let go’ + not care what other people might have thought of me.
tip #1 be confident (or fake it ’til you make it)
I’m proud of what I do and who I am. I -want- to share it with others. I never really told people that I was a blogger, and if I did I usually said something to the effect of ‘well, I have a blog that I do.. but it’s more of a hobby..’ now when I get asked what I do I say something like ‘I am a style blogger’. being more confident in how I say things and talk about my love for my blog in a positive way draws people in. they in turn ask more questions, and itΒ leads into a wonderful discussion about what I -really- do for my job. I love it.
tip #2 be proud of what you’re doing (goes hand in hand with tip #1)
if you are in a place where you aren’t sure what you’re doing, or are lacking the confidence .. I say just GO FOR IT. own it. be so dang proud of what you’re doing. you ARE making a difference. and if YOU love it, then who cares what others say or don’t say about it. something I’ve been thinkingΒ a lot about lately is being creative in your own way, don’t be a copy cat of others. there has got to be something intriguing about YOU that is making people want to follow, wanting to come back to you and your blog for more.
what is it about you that is so special? (because trust me, you are special!)
tip#3 nothing changes if nothing changes, if you want growth in any aspect of your life, you’ve got to work for it
I go through phases where I’m really happy, and then other times when I feel like ‘what is the point?!’ but when it comes deep down to it. I blog because I enjoy it. I have a passion for putting together outfits and I love being creative in my photos. it’s taken me aΒ long time to be comfortable (and sometimes I’m still uncomfortable but do it anyway), there’s that quote that goes ‘life starts at the end of your comfort zone’ and there is truth to that. pushing past what I’m afraid of (what’s holding me back) has brought more adventure, more opportunities and more confidence in my abilities. I’ve also realized that I needed to make changes because IΒ wasn’t seeing theΒ growth that I wanted or hoped for. getting out of my comfort zone has encouraged new opportunities and has made me grow in ways that have made me and my blogging better.
so get out there and break through those comfort zones!
