5 EASY STEPS TO CLOSET DECLUTTERING : MY BEST TIPS
I’ve gone through my closet numerous times and each time I think to myself about the following 5 things .. here are 5 easy steps to closet decluttering : my best tips! be sure to watch my YouTube video here
DECLUTTERING TIPS
1 – CLEANLINESS
got any stains? does that top need dry cleaned? food spills, baby spills, etc. lol if your clothes are dirty – clean them. if they can’t be cleaned – throw away
* LOOK AT CARE LABELS AND MATERIALS
if you realize that you buy a lot of hand wash or dry clean only clothes but don’t have the time to do those things – maybe consider purchasing items in the future that are machine washable instead
2 – MAINTENANCE (TAILORING, LOOSE BUTTONS, ETC)
missing buttons? I swear I have so many tops that need buttons lol and I don’t even have any to fix them with – so here I am with no buttons and shirts I don’t wear.
if you need to get pants hemmed, a jacket fitted, etc – take your clothing to a tailor – I promise if they fit right – you’ll love them and wear them!
3 – FIT
going along with tailoring – if something doesn’t fit right .. can you get it to fit? if not and it doesn’t flatter you – it’s time to sell/donate the item
4 – HOW YOU FEEL
when you see the item does it make you happy? when you wear it, do you think ‘oh I look and feel so great!’ do you pull it out of your closet and instantly put it on, or does it go back into your closet – time and time again?!
if you feel great wearing it – keep!

5 – RECOGNIZE SPECIAL OCCASION + WORKWEAR PIECES
just because you don’t wear a bulky winter coat all year – doesn’t mean you have to ditch it. if something makes sense to have in your wardrobe and it’s meant for special occasions or work – keep!
just follow the above steps for these items too – are they clean? need maintenance? fit well? make you feel your best?
BONUS
realize that it’s OKAY that your style has changed. something for me that I struggle with is if I wore something a lot a few years ago, but don’t love it the same anymore – I feel like I should keep it because it’s a great piece and it gave me great happiness at one point. but then you end up with a closet full of things you don’t truly love anymore …
know that if something no longer brings YOU that joy – it can bring that joy to someone else!
